Second City Sublime

The Peninsula Chicago's sleek and chic lobby. I can't wait to linger about and scope the scene in this Art Deco-inspired fantasy. Just look at that gold ceiling!

This weekend, your favorite Jet Setter is heading to his second-favorite city in the United States: Chicago. Well, I love Los Angeles, too. I'm flying from Chicago to LA for the Design Bloggers Conference, so I will be getting a fix of both cities-and during the Academy Awards, so it should be a white-hot scene. Plus, I will be making a day trip to Palm Springs which j'adore totally.

Whilst in Chicago, I am staying at The Peninsula Chicago, perfectly situated only steps from Michigan Avenue and favorite watering holes such as the RL Restaurant at Ralph Lauren and shops including Alessandra Branca for the most fabulous interior design finds. I cannot wait to check out this fabled hostelry. The Nixon clan did New Year's Eve dinner here in 2009, and we ushered in 2010 in true style. We danced up a storm and drank up enough champagne to allow a vintner in France to retire, but I have never stayed in a room. My mom busted out the vintage Helmut Lang and Marni, and my dad kicked up his heels like there was no tomorrow.

I will scope the scene and report back, from the amenities in the bathroom to dinner at Avenues to the service at the front desk. Stay tuned: I am sure my stay will be blissful.
