Sun, Spa Treatments and the Brand-New Subaru

Here I am out in the desert with the 2014 Subaru Forester.
Miraval's amazing plunge pool and vistas onto the arid mountains.

Recently, I was invited by Subaru to travel to Tucson, Arizona, to spend a long weekend road-testing the all-new 2014 Subaru Forester. Home base for the weekend would be the much-vaunted Miraval resort as we zipped about the desert putting the car through its paces. There would be plenty of opportunities to sit behind the wheel—and there would be time to partake of Miraval’s renowned spa and programs such as the Equine Experience, as well as yoga and wellness classes.

So, naturally, I signed up! I am already a big fan of Subaru since I drive a 2010 Outback, so I was curious to see how the 2014 Forester handles the road. And what could be better than a weekend at a delicious spa?

In Arizona (when it is cold and wintry in New York City, my home). Um. Yummy.

And the weekend went swimmingly. I loved the 2014 Forester. The exterior of the car boasts a stunning new design, and the interior is roomy and spacious. There’s more legroom in the back, and the back doors are wide and allow for easy entrance and egress. The symmetrical all-wheel drive allowed me to fly up dirt- and gravel-strewn hills and down into canyons. And there was plenty of storage room in the trunk for my potential gear: Remember that I am also an interior designer, so I always look for cars that can hold a good sofa in its boot.

Back at Miraval, I had a wonderful, 100-minute relaxation massage and wandered the property, taking in the stunning vistas and cactus-dotted landscape. I tried the Equine Experience and seemed to be really attuned to my horse, Taco Joe. He let me groom him and take him for a walk without problem. Apparently, the horse is supposed to respond to your learned behavior. Taco Joe seemed to think that I have it all together.

And then I kicked back and read. And then took the Forester out for a few more spins. And had a few cocktails. A fantastic weekend all-around!

Practicing my hand at the Miraval Equine Experience with my horse, Taco Joe. Joe let me do everything that I asked him to, so I didn't learn much from the experience about myself. But it was fun to hang out with the horses for an hour or two.    The Forester truly handled the desert conditions swimmingly.
