For four evenings a week, 51 weeks of each year, Cleveland Cinematheque screens movies that you’ll rarely, if ever, get the chance to see anywhere else. Foreign films, classic works, experimental movies, films that were banned in their own countries, very old to brand-new, these works of art are often grouped in months-long themed series. Shown in the Cleveland Institute of Art’s large auditorium, in 35mm and stereo, the films are preceded by comments about them from the Cinematheque’s longtime director, John Ewing, and are sometimes followed by discussions, occasionally with the film’s director.
