Price:  Around $13 USD

Type:  Monuments & Historic Sites

Probably the most famous of Istanbul’s myriad historic sites, the Hagia Sophia was built in the 4th century and has served as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral, Roman Catholic cathedral, mosque and now, a museum. Hagia Sophia boasts a dramatic dome that seems to float thanks to the 40 windows at its base. And, of course, the Hagia Sofia is fabled for its Byzantine flourishes, including its stunning, gold-inflected mosaics (notably the sumptuous Empress Zoe mosaics). Arrive early to avoid the crush of travelers who pack this must-visit monument. After a tour, visit the nearby Arasta Bazaar for some chic shopping without the haggling and hullabaloo of the Grand Bazaar.
