Louisville

Bourbon and bluegrass? Check. The Kentucky Derby? Of course. Louisville is steeped in history and tradition, with a legacy of horse racing and bourbon distilling in the heart of the Bluegrass State. But look beyond that and find a modern and vibrant city loved by its inhabitants for its thriving arts scene, miles of lush green spaces and welcoming, friendly sense of community. Not to mention a rocking culinary scene that may be the best kept secret in the country, with brilliant chefs making waves on television, in magazines and at the James Beard house.

City of Parks, Possibility City, River City, whatever you call Louisville (that's Lou-uh-vuhl) you'll find that it's a world-class city boasting spectacular events, high-caliber performing arts and compelling attractions, all in a hospitable and multicultural setting.

In this neither Southern nor Northern city you can party till 4 a.m. then dive into an amazing slice of pizza, browse award-winning independent bookstores or relax in warm coffeeshops. Bumper stickers proclaiming “Keep Louisville Weird” attest to the city's independent spirit, and residents are fiercely loyal to their local shops, restaurants, artists and musicians.

It's a city of neighborhoods, each with its own unique spirit, and each worth exploring. Discover a downtown revival on Whiskey Row (Main Street), a burgeoning culinary scene in Germantown and the hot new NuLu district, where local foodies can't keep up with the array of creative gastronomic pleasures popping up.

So sip your bourbon and visit the track, maybe even listen to some bluegrass. But get out and find for yourself what makes Louisvillians so rightfully proud of their city.
