Madrid Basics

Madrid

Located in the center of Spain and the hub of the country’s political, cultural and economic activity, Madrid exudes warmth and history. Start your day with a walk in the Parque del Retiro, where you can meander through the winding paths and savor the Castilian-accented sun. After, head to the world-famous Prado Museum or the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum to view the incredible collections of art. If you want a bird’s eye view of the city, take a ride on the teleferico, which will lift you from the centro to the open green spaces of Casa de Campo Park. End your day with a late meal at one of the fine dining or casual options, perhaps the world-famous Botín, which was featured in Hemmingway’s The Sun Also Rises. Dine on the roast suckling pig or baby squid cooked in their own ink with a side of white asparagus. Finally, save your energy for one of the late-night party spots, which only really begin after 1 a.m. One of the most famous, Kapital, offers multiple themed levels for dancing and imbibing in a cocktail—or two.
