My Favorite Street: Rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île, Paris

1 2 3 4 5 6
L'Epicerie
L’Epicerie is a phenomenal resource for exquisite teas, artisan mustards, herb-infused oils and perfumed sugars—very gourmet.” 51 rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île

PLUS:
  • For a few good lunch options, try the tasty crêpes, salads, steak frites or duck confit at Café Med. 77 rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île
  • With its central location, Île St-Louis makes a great home base for a stay in Paris. Try the romantic and charming rooms at Hôtel du Jeu de Paume, a former royal mansion with a lovely patio garden.
  • For a picnic on the island, Capucine recommends getting a baguette and then heading to La Ferme Saint-Aubin, a cheese lover’s heaven with stinky varieties from all over France. 76 rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île
Berthillon
Berthillon produces the most exquisite ice cream I’ve ever tasted and incredible seasonal flavors like black currant and fraise des bois,” Capucine says. 29-31 rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île
Brasserie de l’Île St-Louis
For a bite and view of the Seine and Île de la Cité, try Brasserie de l’Île St-Louis. “The food is simple and the view of the tippy tops of Notre Dame is handsome,” Capucine says. “Try the succulent poulet frites!” 55 quai de Bourbon

Boulangerie St.-Louis
You can’t visit France without tasting the baked goods. “Every morning I would go to this darling little patisserie, Boulangerie St.-Louis, where you can get tiny, fresh quiche and crispy baguettes,” Capucine says. Boulangerie St.-Louis, 78 rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île
Mon Vieil Ami
The French may be known for their meat and cheese, but at Mon Vieil Ami, chef Antoine Westermann’s vegetables—sweet rutabagas, fleshy artichokes, meaty mushrooms—take center plate. Mon Vieil Ami, 69 rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île

La Charlotte de I'Isle
La Charlotte de l’Isle is famous for its hot chocolate. I used to sip tea, order two desserts (I couldn’t choose just one) and write in my journal,” Capucine says. “It’s minuscule and full of romantic vintage furniture.” La Charlotte de l’Isle, 24 rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île
After graduating from design school, Capucine Gooding, design director and senior VP of the Euro-chic and sought-after glassware/ceramics company Juliska, took up residence on Île St-Louis, the atmospheric island on the Seine. The peaceful Île St-Louis is widely regarded as the most romantic place in all of Paris. And it was on the dreamy riverbanks among the 18th-century architecture and stone-paved courtyards that Capucine fell in love with David Gooding, her future husband and Juliska CEO and president. The island houses no monuments or metro stations and has only a single small museum, but its main street, the bustling rue Saint-Louis-en-l’Île, is home to some of the city’s finest (and tiny) boutiques scattered among memorable restaurants.  —Melissa Colgan
