Raleigh is North Carolina's capital city and a beautiful destination for travelers year-round.

Transportation: Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is centrally located between Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill—a geographic area known as the Research Triangle region of North Carolina. The airport itself is 10 miles southeast of Durham, 10 miles northwest of Raleigh, 17 miles east of Chapel Hill and 7 miles from Research Triangle Park, one of the oldest and largest high-technology research and development centers in North America. Eight rental car agencies are just a shuttle bus ride away from the airport terminals. Hop aboard a shuttle near the baggage claim areas where they stop approximately every 15 minutes on each terminal curb. Look for the green bus shelters marked “Rental Car.”

RDU Airport Taxi provides taxi service to and from the airport, available from Terminal One on the curb near Southwest Airlines and from Terminal Two on the lower level curb. Expect to spend around $30 in cab fare to reach either Raleigh or Durham (about 20-minute drives each) and close to $40 for a ride to Chapel Hill (half an hour away). To schedule a taxi, call 919-840-7277 or make a reservation online.

Triangle Transit provides public bus service to downtown Raleigh (about a 40-minute ride on routes 100 and 105) and to the Regional Transit Center, which also offers connections to Durham. Catch the bus at the airport between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and hourly on Saturdays between 7:10 a.m. and 7:10 p.m. Fares are $2 per trip. Call 919-485-7433 for more information.

Shared ride vans, limousine and shuttle services are also available for RDU passengers. Check out the full listing of alternate transportation options here.

Free in-city shuttle services are also available in Raleigh and Durham. The R Line in Raleigh travels throughout the downtown area, and the Bull City Connector in Durham travels through Duke University and down West Main Street.
