Panda fans must pay tribute to Ling Ling during a visit to Tokyo. The beloved Giant Panda who died in April 2008 and called the Ueno Zoo home is the most famous of the zoo’s inhabitants, though there are almost 3,000 animals under its care so it’s certainly not the only reason to visit. Other animals of interest include zebras, a Sumatran tiger, Asian elephants, giraffes, rhinos and King penguins. The museum is surrounded by Ueno Park, a peaceful and natural place perfect for an afternoon stroll or a breather from the hectic pace the city inspires.

"I'm not afraid to look like a big, hairy, smelly, foreign devil in Tokyo, though I do my best not to, I really do." —Anthony Bourdain
