Mount Pleasant, Vancouver

Fox Cabaret

Fox Cabaret

Why Now: Mount Pleasant is the ever-evolving epicenter of Vancouver’s craft beer revolution. Home to internet giant Hootsuite’s headquarters, this once-industrial, working-class hood has fermented into a tech hub, and funky, hip eateries, galleries and music clubs are frothing with local creativity.

Where to Go: Bunk in restored vintage comfort at The Manor Guest House, featuring stained glass windows and a lush herb garden. At R & B Brewing Co.’s new Ale & Pizza House, feast on chorizo and red onion pizza paired with a pint of Raven cream ale. Or hit The Federal Store, a freshly minted café and grocery that tantalizes with yam quiche or elk and fig terrine. For fashion shopping with local flair, pick up British Columbia-themed men’s T-shirts at Bird on a Wire Creations, retro pinup dresses at Scout Boutique and bespoke corsets at Lace Embrace Atelier. A tongue-in-cheek photo op awaits at “Dude Chilling Park” (officially Guelph Park), whose city-approved sign, originally created as a spoof by artist Viktor Briestensky, earned quips from talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. To amp up the coolness factor, check out indie rockers and up-and-coming hip-hop artists at the intimate Biltmore Cabaret, which celebrates the 10th anniversary of its reopening this year. Finish the night by sampling designer doughnut flavors such as Canadian Whiskey Bacon at Cartems Donuterie or more acclaimed beers at the chill tasting rooms of Faculty Brewing Co. and 33 Acres Brewing Company.
